Grass Collection Changes

Name: Grass Collection Changes
Date: June 29, 2012 - July 21, 2012
Event Description:
Beginning the week of July 9, 2012 the Huron Solid Waste Department will make the following permanent changes to the grass collection routes.

The collection of residential garbage (brown cans) and grass (green cans) will be combined into the same day, but will be picked up by different garbage trucks. For example: If you have your residential garbage (brown can) currently picked up on Mondays, beginning on July 9 your grass (green can) will also be picked up on Monday. Garbage routes that are picked up other days of the week will now have their grass picked up on that usual garbage collection day.

Holiday Changes: When a holiday occurs, that day’s garbage and grass collection will be done on Wednesday of that week. Examples: Labor Day is Monday, Sept. 3, therefore Monday’s garbage & grass will be picked up on Wednesday, Sept. 5. Thanksgiving is on Thursday, Nov. 22, and those with a Thursday route will be picked up on Wednesday, Nov. 21.

Reminders from the Solid Waste Department

A three-foot clearance is needed around each container in order to be picked up by the trucks. Do not sit the containers side by side or next to fences or poles without a three-foot clearance around the containers. The lids must be closed and nothing extending out from the top of the can.

Contents: The contents of the grass containers (green cans) shall consist of grass, leaves and small branches only. All branches larger than three inches in diameter are to be taken out to the compost site by the resident.

Tree Trimming: It is the resident’s responsibility to make sure all tree branches and limbs are cleared back to the property line, as well as 13.5 feet above the roadways.
