Event Description:
The Center for Independence (CFI), a community agency that supports adults with developmental disabilities in Huron, SD is providing a camp for middle school kids to increase awareness regarding people with disabilities. The camp will be held at Byron Bible Camp near Huron. The theme is "Breaking Down Stereotypes One Step At A Time". CFI believes that the Lead for Life will be instrumental in changing attitudes of youth by educating them on the value of people with disabilities. The camp's primary objective is to change participant's attitudes regarding developmental disabilities through a variety of learning opportunities. The camp will consist of speaker persentations on topics to include Disability Awareness, Communication and Empowerment. Persons with a disability will be participants as well as speakers as well as participants in all of the activities. The primary focus of the camp will include 3 main areas: Knowledge, Team-building, and Leadership. Keynote speakers are Bret Merkel, Jamie Never Misses A Shot, and Kendra Gottsleben.

Fees/Admission:
$100; 25% off for first 25 campers registered. All campers registered before Memorial Day (May 27) will be in a drawing for a free camp. Scholarships available. We don't want the cost to prevent anyone from attending.
